Wildfire Dominate, Defeat Mechanix 23-16

-Chicago, IL-

The Chicago Wildfire earned their third win of the season yesterday with a 23-16 win over the Detroit Mechanix. Sunday’s game at Lane Tech Stadium provided swirly winds and a plethora of turnovers, with both teams attempting to take advantage. The Wildfire started off the game with an 8-2 first quarter, but Detroit found multiple deep scores from turns to make it 11-9 at halftime. With a strong second half, Chicago was able to pull ahead and keep it that way. Coach King had great things to say about the teams fight.

“It’s good to see us fight all the way through the fourth quarter. Defense did a great job of pressuring the disc from the first pull, and that allowed us tons of chances to convert.”

When asked what could have been better, Coach was quick to acknowledge our defensive pressure deep.

“Our defense on cutters was lacking today. It seemed to be mostly strategic, which is what I’d prefer. We have the players necessary to make plays, we just need to get everyone on the same page. On the other side of the disc, offense needs to clean it up. I don’t think we played down, but I do think we played with a little too much reckless abandon. Even with the swirly wins at Lane, we’ve got to be able to keep the disc moving through all 4 quarters.”

Michael Pardo was named Player of the Game after scoring 9 goals and 1 D for the Wildfire. His contributions on the field kept the Wildfire offense from stalling at critical times throughout the game. Other noticeable contributions included Pawel Janas with 8 assists, Tommy Gallagher with 4, and Judah Newman with 3 on the defensive line.

The Wildfire take the road for the July 4th weekend to play Indianapolis on Saturday, and Pittsburgh on Sunday. The next home game with be Friday, July 14th at 7PM against the Madison Radicals. Be there for what is sure to be a great final match up of the season for these two teams.
